| LOG CABIN CONSTUCTIVE PHASE - The walls begin above the floor joists. All of the logs were brought cut and assembled in Moscow, Idaho, numbered, packed on two flatbed trucks and transported to the site near Clovis, California. The foundations had been laid in anticipation of the logs' arrival, and now the reassembling has started on the site. This took two years, with putting in the floor, cutting all the openings through the log walls, and putting the roof on, and chinking between the logs. No one down here knew how to do that, so I had to learn and do it myself. In the left photograph the first window is cut. The photograph on the right is my dear friend, John Stewart, colleague and sculptor in the Art department, helping me with the task of finishing the walls and starting the roof. He was a wonderful artist and dear friend, and died a few years later of a brain tumor. |
