Kachina is derived from the base of Guida di Campagna . The base for Guida was a long time in construction. I liked what evolved from the severing of the base and the superstructure that I decided the base itself was a piece. Upon turning the base vertically I sensed the presence of a line of Kachinas. Throughout my many visits to the Southwest, particularly to pueblos of Santa Fe, New Mexico, I had become familiar with the traditions of kachinas. The kachinas embody magical powers and are celebrated at crucial times in the Native American rituals. Many such Kachinas were spirit vessels of the Earth's fertility.
