TWO BLADES

With Two Blades I expanded the scale and dimension of Two Sails. With proportional increments, the basic idea once established in Two Sails was expanded into my second sculpture in bamboo. I enjoy the slight oblique warps of the two opposing plates, (akin to flaps or doors on continuous hinges). Two Blades does not move but possesses such visual potential. The basic two dimensional composition of Two Sails and now Two Blades is now extended in the latter by kicking out a support for the original triangle, resulting in a tripod that stands free with this most subtle extension. From this realization, other triangles became trapezoidal and either stood alone or hung separately like the Spirit House and Spirits Adrift units. Two Blades found itself on a permanent pedestal next to a triangular pool on the James Hallowell estate overlooking the vast expanses of the Sierra foothills - probably the most perfect place imaginable for a piece of sculpture. It is so nice to give sculpture a good home!
